UPA also tends to place volunteers in some of its branches so that members in these also benefit from the volunteer programme. This is to begin with
five branches of the organization out of the 10 that are established.
Kikooba branch
Background
Kikooba Branch is one of the oldest branches of the organization. It has a craft project with baskets and mats and is seriously looking
for a market for its items. The branch has a primary school that teaches children of 5-10 years.
Aim
To promote education of the disadvantaged and alleviate poverty.
Activities
- The branch wants volunteers to teach at a local primary school in the area
- There is an adult literacy programme at the branch that is soon to take off. Volunteers are therefore needed to teach the adults in the area
- Other activities will include touring of the local village and caves in the surrounding hills
Volunteer task
Teach at a local primary school with pupils of age 5-10years
Volunteer qualities
- The volunteer should be ready to live in a rural area without electric power and running water but a stream.
- The volunteer will spend a lot of time living. (cooking, fetching water, and cleaning for themselves)
- The living conditions are very basic and therefore no luxury of any kind.

Kikooba is a good placement for volunteers that wish to live in the African way.
