St. Francis Health Center Njeru
Background
The center was established in 1998 to respond to the challenges of HIV/AIDS and provision of medical care and psycho social support
to people living and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Aim
To prevent the further spread of HIV/AIDS and to mitigate personal, community impact of AIDS, through provision of quality
medical care and counseling services to the infected and affected.
Activities
- Treatment of AIDS related diseases such as Tuberculosis, malaria and diarrhoea.
- Voluntary counseling and testing of HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmitted diseases.
- Treatment of other tropical diseases such as malaria
- Outreaches to patients and communities that have been affected by AIDS
Volunteer task
- Counseling of patients
- Food distribution to persons living with HIV
- Treatment of tropical diseases
- Treatment of diseases caused by HIV
- The volunteer may also get involved in campaigns that are aimed at sensitizing people about HIV/AIDS
Volunteer qualities
- The volunteer should be innovative and ready to work on there own with less supervision
- The volunteer should be emotionally strong, since there will be working with patients living and affected by HIV
- The volunteer should be willing to live in basic accommodation with a family or by themselves

Working hours
The working hours are from 08.00 to 17.00. the volunteer willing be able to take the weekends off to travel to Kampala or
tour the beautiful city of Jinja the Source of the Nile and also go rafting on the Nile
Transport
Transport to the center will take 3 hours from Kampala
Accomodation
Accommodation is arranged at the center or with a family for the volunteer to stay with.

Health Center Njeru requires a person that is able to take intiative and not wait for some one to tell them what to do.
Communication
Many of the people working at the center can speak English. However the clients that come to be treated may not be able to speak
English and a translator will be required for the communication
