Uganda Pioneers' Association

History of UPA

Sarah

UPA was founded in 1989 by 8 young Ugandans with the aim of mobilizing youth to contribute to community development through voluntary work. The current main activities include organising national and international work-camps that contribute voluntary labour and skills to local development projects, such as schools, community centres, health units, farmer's centres, etc. UPA also links national and international volunteers to community projects.

UPA has grown over the years and currently includes ten branches in seven districts in Uganda, a permanent secretariat with three full-time employees, a guesthouse with a capacity of 13 volunteers in Nansana, on the outskirts of Kampala, and a demonstration farm in Bukomero, Kiboga district.

UPA has several partners all over the world and branches throughout Uganda. More information about the partners can be found in the partners section.
